Amara is the wife of Alexis Augustus Armentrout and mother of Sophie. She is a monster who lives in The Subworlds. She calls her husband 'Alex.'
Alexis first told Daniel Kravitz about his daughter after the destruction of Kravitz Antiques, as he was visiting her at the time of the attack, but didn't mention he was married to her mother. In fact, he lied about and omitted certain details, including the fact that Amara was a monster. Though the fact that they met when Alexis was in his undergrad studies is likely true ("The Safe House").
It is easy to see why Alexis would lie, as relations between humans and monsters has long been tense. Still, Amara and Alexis made it work long-distance, with Amara and Sophie secreted away from the human world.
When an army amassed in The Subworlds to march on Daniel and friends, Amara called Alexis for help. Her call was abruptly terminated, and Alexis went to find her ("Punch"). He did locate her, and the two went into deep hiding together with their daughter ("Deceit of Clay").
Alexis was determined to stop Monbo, a monster who planned to wipe out the U.L.P. that Alexis once belonged to, even though Amara wanted him to stay with his family, citing Sophie being older as a reason for Alexis to be around. She didn't think Alexis should be responsible anymore for fighting back, and thought there'd always be another Monbo. Alexis disagreed, unable to sit on the sidelines. Alexis said he would return to his family after Monbo was stopped. While Amara understood she couldn't stop Alexis from going, she wasn't sure she was willing to take him back if he went to battle again ("Maneuvers").
